Left Iliac Pelvic Resection

Case Summary:
Left Ileas Pelvic Resection
Patient Diagnosis:

This patient presented with an unusual soft tissue mass located on the left ilium that required resection.

Planned Procedure/Approach:

Resection planned for an anterior approach. For the design, a 10 mm
tumour margin was considered, except on the superior region, which was reduced to 5 mm allow a
minimum of 5 mm thickness of the iliac crest bone.

What Insight Surgery provided:

Two patient-specific guides were designed using
the same cutting planes and attachment points. The only difference is that one of the guides does not include the feature that contours into the sciatic notch to allow the surgeon flexibility in theatres.

Cutting slots were designed with a 3-degree draft angle to facilitate bone fragment removal.

Outcome/Benefits:

The guides allowed the surgeon to precisely remove the affected region of bone whilst maintaining the iliac crest.
